Vaughan Constructions has recently completed a new warehouse and office facility for Compu-stor in Altona, Victoria.
The 8,900sqm facility was designed and built by Vaughans using a portal steel frame structure with post-tensioned concrete slabs / floors with a specific client brief to develop the facility around the client's preferred internal stowage layout.

The canny use of external steel beam columns has maximised useable space inside the major new records management facility in Melbourne. With a 131m x 64m footprint, almost 100% of the structure is supported externally by the main load columns apart from the use of some off-centre internal columns incorporated to fit the client’s preferred racking layout.
"The beauty of steel is its ability to span long distances which allows for flexible grid layouts through the use of spine beams to place internal columns off-grid to suit racking layout," Ken Vaughan said.
"The use of a Post Tensioned floor system also gives the long term benefit of minimising the number of joints in the concrete floor and providing the corresponding reduction in life cycle maintenance costs for the materials handling equipment and floor joints," Mr Vaughan said.
He explained that the beauty of the "Design and Construct"; approach is in allowing the design to take advantage of construction expertise right from the front end of the project procurement and ensuring that one contractor is responsible for total project delivery from concept to completion without "buck passing".
